Ortakent Bay Conditions

Ortakent Bay is the famed to be the windiest and most natural bay in the area. The wind blows side off shore making the water conditions flat and easy for beginners, as well as enjoyable for the more advanced freestylers and slalom sailors. While there is a shallow and relatively sheltered area right in front the center which is ideal for beginners, you can also just sail 2 minutes further out and get to a spot generally knows as “WINDY-CORNER”, the wind speed here is always 10 knots more than on the inside of the bay. At the same time the chop gets slightly bigger the further out you sail. It remains however a flatwater spot and we only ever get waves in the winter in combination with onshore storms. So what is great about the bay is that you can choose wind strenght and chop size to suit your ability and taste on the same day within the same bay! Termic winds blow all throughout the summer month, usually the wind is light in the morning and slowly picks up throughout the day, its generally windiest between 15:00- 19:00 which particularly suits the Bodrum lifestyle of late-nights and late mornings ..

Located in the centre of the bay and a secret favourite with most people is ‘Celebi-Island’ a small island within easy sailing distance, with a nice little beach and a lot of rabbits who are the only inhabitants. It is also a great destination for on a early morning SUP-ride.

Ortakent, is also a great basis from which to explore the rest of Bodrum peninsula, the name Ortakent actually means “Midtown” a name given due to its central location. Bodrum peninsula consists of lots of different unique bays with different flairs, while some are famous for their local handicrafts, some are famed for their fish restaurants and natural beauty, while others have a bristling nightlife, but be sure that non is like the other…. On the rare occasion that there is no wind Bodrum will not get boring as there are plenty of activities on offer, from scuba diving, to the local markets, horse back riding, hiking, a visit to the Aquapark, one of the nearby shopping malls or some of the ancient historical sights, Bodrum has it all!
